Lachlan Carr
Managing Partner
LLB, LLM, Accredited Specialist (Workplace Law)
-
Lachlan has a broad employment, industrial relations and disputes practice, advising organisations across the public, private and not‑for‑profit sectors. With over a decade of experience spanning top‑tier and global law firms, in‑house roles, and work with a national peak member organisation, Lachlan is well placed to provide commercially sound, practically useful legal advice.
Lachlan advises on all aspects of employment law, both contentious and non‑contentious. His experience includes enterprise bargaining and industrial relations, general protections and adverse action, unfair dismissal and unlawful termination, fixed‑term and casual engagement, labour hire, underpayment and wage integrity, and regulatory compliance, including interaction with the Fair Work Ombudsman. He regularly assists organisations with policy development, interpretation and compliance, as well as internal case and complaints management.
A significant part of Lachlan’s practice involves supporting organisations operating in unionised, regulated or high‑risk environments. He advises boards, executives and in‑house legal teams on the lawful exercise of managerial discretion, dispute avoidance strategies, and how workplace decisions are likely to be assessed in practice. Lachlan has extensive experience managing matters before the Fair Work Commission, all federal courts, and state courts and tribunals.
Lachlan also has deep experience in investigations, conduct and culture matters. He advises on and conducts investigations into alleged misconduct involving staff, students, volunteers, participants and others across workplaces, educational institutions, sporting clubs and community organisations. His work includes advising on procedurally fair investigations, responding to whistleblower complaints and public interest disclosures, and managing sensitive issues involving governance, risk and reputation.
In addition, Lachlan advises on discrimination matters across all settings and under both state and federal legislation. He assists organisations to respond to claims, manage external proceedings before human rights and equal opportunity bodies, and undertake cultural and systems reviews aimed at identifying and addressing underlying compliance risks.
Lachlan’s practice also extends to civil and commercial dispute resolution, including defamation and reputation matters, privacy and data protection (including data breach response), and contractual and other commercial disputes.
Lachlan is known for making complex legal concepts easy to understand and for helping clients confidently navigate difficult legal processes. His approach is methodical and meticulous, and he takes the time to ensure clients understand their options and feel empowered to make well‑informed, risk‑based decisions that suit their context and goals.
